Postdoc in seed molecular biology and physiology

A postdoctoral position is available in the Swiezewski Lab to investigate gene expression regulation's transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms during seed maturation and germination.

Seeds represent an extraordinary stage in the life cycle of plants, characterised by their resilience to external conditions. This resilience is achieved through the seed maturation programme (SMP) of gene expression during seed production on the mother plant. SMP determines crucial seed physiological properties, such as desiccation tolerance, dormancy, vigour, and longevity. An essential step is the partial shutdown of the SMP before the final seed desiccation, which creates space for more flexible responses during early germination. Notably, the ultimate shutdown of the SMP during germination is essential for healthy seedling establishment. This project will investigate the transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms involved in regulating the SMP.

We seek a highly motivated and skilled candidate who can work independently and collaboratively within an international team. Proficiency in molecular techniques related to proteins, RNA, or chromatin in plants is essential. Previous experience in seed biology and physiology is strongly preferred. The candidate should complete their PhD no later than seven years before signing the contract. The four-year position is available immediately (April 2025) and is fully funded by a National Science Centre “OPUS” grant. Review of applications will begin on 31.03.2025.

Those interested should submit documents confirming obtaining a PhD degree, a cover letter outlining research interests and career goals, an updated curriculum vitae, and at least two reference letters, including one from the previous employer or doctorate supervisor. The official applications should be submitted following instructions:
